Diablo 4 Patch 3.1.0 is live, and this is not the kind of update you skim while your build quietly catches fire in the background. Blizzard's June 30 patch notes include a big Unique item pass, Season of Death Awakening fixes, boss ladder cleanup, and a long list of class and system changes.
The headline for most players is simple: check your Uniques before you start spending resources like nothing changed. Mythic Unique crafting and affix rules are different enough that old habits can turn into a bad trade fast.
The Unique item changes are the big one
Blizzard says Unique, Mythic Unique, and Iconic Mythic items can now have affixes altered through Enchanting. That is a major pressure release for players who were stuck staring at almost-right items and pretending the bad line did not bother them.
The patch also says added affixes from Enchanting, Transfiguration, and Tempering are always max rolls when added to a Mythic Unique. That matters because Mythic gear is where bad resource decisions hurt the most. If you are touching that tier of item, slow down and read the new rules first.
What changed for rerolls
Chaotic Reroll and Focused Reroll were removed for Unique and Mythic Unique items. That is the kind of change that can break your old menu muscle memory, especially if you were already planning your upgrade route before the season opened.
The practical move is boring but smart: inspect your current items, check which affixes can be changed now, and do not burn materials on autopilot. Autopilot is how good loot becomes a lesson.
Boss ladder keys got cleaned up
Betrayer's Husks are now called Superior Lair Keys. Blizzard notes the rename happened because Belial is no longer the only boss in that Tier 3 ladder spot.
That is not flashy, but it does make the ladder easier to understand. If your farming plan still uses the old name, update your notes before you send someone in the party hunting for an item that technically changed uniforms.
What players should do first
- Recheck any build that leans hard on Mythic Unique item handling.
- Look at boss ladder materials before your first farm session.
- Do not assume old reroll routes still work.
- Read the class-specific fixes for your main before pushing higher content.
- Keep an eye on Horadric Cube behavior if your upgrade plan depends on it.
What to do now
This patch is less about one giant balance explosion and more about item rules shifting under your feet. That is exactly the kind of update that punishes lazy prep.
Before you lock in your first Season of Death Awakening grind route, check your Uniques, check your boss keys, and check your build's patch notes. Sanctuary already kills enough people without you donating materials to the wrong system.
