Heroes of Might and Magic: Olden Era is very happy to punish a sloppy first week. One bad creep fight, one greedy build, or one blind path can make the rest of the map feel heavier than it needed to.
This beginner plan is about early discipline: preserve troops, grow the economy, scout before committing, and use magic or stack tricks when they actually improve the trade.

Learn Without Juggling Too Much
You do not need to manage every plate while learning the rules.
Start With Single Hero
Single Hero mode removes a lot of map management noise. Use it to learn economy, creeping, magic, and combat before juggling multiple heroes.

Win Fights Without Bleeding The Army
Neutral stacks are not free XP if they hollow out your roster.
Creep With Low Losses
Neutral fights are not just about winning. Preserve troops by using waits, retaliation control, spell timing, and unit spacing so early fights do not drain your army.
Protect Fast Units
Fast stacks set turn order and grab key hexes. Do not throw them away early just because they can reach the enemy first.
Use Magic To Fix Bad Trades
Spells should prevent losses, swing tempo, or finish dangerous stacks before they act. Save mana for fights where it changes the trade, not just for damage.
Split Stacks With Purpose
Small stacks can bait retaliation, block tiles, or protect shooters. Split only when the extra body has a job, because free kills still feed the enemy.

Make The Map Pay Earlier
Gold, production, and scouting are how early turns stop bleeding value.
Build For Economy First
Early gold and production snowball hard. Do not chase every flashy building before your town can afford troops, upgrades, and daily map pressure.
Scout Before Committing
A blind hero path wastes turns. Reveal roads, resource piles, and guard strength first, then decide which objectives are worth the travel time.

Draft Arena Like A Real Plan
Disconnected power looks good until the match asks what your army is actually doing.
Draft Arena Like A Plan
In Arena mode, picks are not random trophies. Draft hero skills, artifacts, and unit types around one clear win condition instead of collecting disconnected power.
The Short Version
Do not rush the map like every fight is free. Scout first, build the economy, preserve troops, use spells when they fix the trade, and split stacks only when the extra body has a real job.
