Subnautica 2 looks peaceful until oxygen, food, storage, and resource routing all become the same problem.

This early-ocean guide keeps the first hours cleaner: craft the multi tool, scan everything new, turn slugs into bottled water, and use the pod as your zero point until beacons arrive.

Unlock Tools Before Wandering

The multi tool opens too many routes to delay.

Craft The Multi Tool First

Three titanium gets you the survival multi tool, and that unlocks early harvesting. Without it, fiber, acidic pouches, and several resource routes stay annoyingly out of reach.

Scan Everything New

The scanner is your blueprint engine. If an object glows, pings, or looks even slightly important, scan it before your brain files it under pretty ocean junk.

Scan Before Your Memory Lies

Blueprints come from curiosity with a scanner attached.

Fabricate Slug Water

Water slugs can hydrate you, but eating them costs hunger. Bring them back to the fabricator and turn them into bottled water like a civilized castaway.

Use The Pod As Zero

Before beacons, your life pod is the cleanest map marker you have. Track direction and distance from it so resource runs do not become scenic panic tours.

Make Water And Titanium Efficient

Backpack space matters more underwater.

Grab Scrap For Titanium

Loose titanium is fine, but scrap is the better backpack play. Break it down at the fabricator for multiple titanium instead of hauling crumbs home.

Chain Your Oxygen

Early air is brutally short. Look for oxygen plants, cave air pockets, and leaking tanks before pushing deeper, or the ocean will collect your confidence.

The pod is the map marker you already own.

Store Near The Fabricator

Subnautica 2 can craft and build from nearby storage. Keep lockers close to your fabricator so your base stops being an inventory management punishment.

Build Near A Current

Your first base can be tiny, but placement still matters. A nearby current helps future power plans, and a powered base gives you the oxygen pit stop you wanted.

The Short Version

Craft the multi tool, scan new objects, turn water slugs into bottles, haul scrap for titanium, and navigate from the pod until you can place proper beacons.
