God of War Laufey Preorders Are Live, but Combat Is the Real Signal
God of War Laufey preorders are live for PS5, but the real reason to pay attention is what the editions and combat footage say about Faye's game.
God of War Laufey is no longer just a reveal trailer waiting for another detail. Preorders are live, PlayStation has put the edition list in public, and the PS5 date is now February 16, 2027.
That makes the useful question pretty simple: are you buying this because it says God of War on the box, or because Faye's game actually looks like the combat shift you want?
The Date And Editions Are Set
PlayStation lists God of War Laufey for PS5 on February 16, 2027. The US page currently shows the Standard Edition at $69.99, Digital Deluxe at $79.99, and a $10 Digital Deluxe Upgrade.
The preorder bonuses are cosmetic and resource-focused: the Last Wish Armor Set, Phranque Golden Leaves Appearance, and an in-game resource pack. The Digital Deluxe version adds a mini artbook, soundtrack, Dark Alchemy equipment, Dark Alchemy blade, bow, catalyst, and the same resource pack.
That is not a weird edition maze, at least not yet. If you only care about the game, Standard is the clean lane. If you like the art, music, and extra cosmetics, Digital Deluxe is the upsell. Do not talk yourself into the bigger version unless you actually use that stuff.
The Real Signal Is Faye's Combat
The preorder push matters because it puts the marketing back on Faye herself. Laufey is not being sold as another Kratos detour. It is being sold around speed, magic, blades, bow work, and a very different silhouette from the heavy axe rhythm most players know.

That is the part worth watching. If Santa Monica Studio can make Faye feel sharp without turning her into Kratos with lighter animations, this gets interesting fast. If the game only borrows the series' camera and boss scale, players will notice.
The safest read right now is that PlayStation wants fans looking at the combat footage, not just the preorder bonuses. Good. Bonuses disappear into a menu. Combat is what you are stuck with for the whole run.
The Story Setup Is Doing A Lot
The official setup has Faye waking in the Everywhen after her funeral, with the plans she made for Kratos and Atreus under threat. That is a big swing because God of War 2018 treated her absence as the emotional center of the whole journey.
There is risk here. Explaining too much about a character who worked partly because she was gone can sand off some of the mystery. But there is also a real upside: Faye has been important to the series for years without players getting to own her choices directly.
If Laufey works, it gives the Norse saga a new angle instead of just extending the same family wound forever. If it misses, it becomes the kind of prequel-adjacent story that makes players wish some doors had stayed shut.
Should You Preorder?
If you already know you want every God of War release on day one, nothing in the edition list looks like a trap. Pick Standard unless the Deluxe extras are genuinely your thing.
If you are less certain, wait. There is plenty of time before February 16, and the next useful checkpoint is more uncut gameplay, not another cosmetics list.
Game Pelt's read: Laufey is worth watching, but not because of the preorder pack. The pitch lives or dies on whether Faye's faster, magic-heavy combat earns its own space. That is the part PlayStation needs to keep showing.
