Kingdom Hearts Collection is getting Traditional Chinese, Simplified Chinese, and Korean subtitles in early summer 2027. Before starting a long English-language playthrough, check your platform: several versions will not let you carry that save into the version receiving the new subtitles.

Square Enix announced the update on October 8, alongside the collection's current-console launch. It has given a release window rather than an exact patch date. Updated physical editions are also planned, with more details still to come.

English saves have different limits on each platform

On Nintendo Switch 2 and PS5, the additional subtitles will be added to the Japanese versions only. English-version saves cannot transfer into those versions. Buying an English copy now is therefore a poor starting plan if you want to continue the same campaign with Chinese or Korean subtitles later.

On Xbox Series X|S and Xbox on PC, the Japanese version will offer the added subtitles. After the update, setting the system language to Traditional Chinese, Simplified Chinese, or Korean will launch that version automatically. Saves created in the English version cannot transfer.

Steam uses a similar language-selection rule through the client or game Properties. English saves generally cannot carry over, but Square Enix lists Kingdom Hearts III as an exception. That exception applies to KHIII; do not assume it also covers 1.5+2.5 ReMIX or 2.8.

On Epic Games Store, the language update applies to products bought with accounts registered outside Japan. Square Enix says saves from those eligible purchases can transfer. Check the account's registered region before relying on that option.

These are rules for the upcoming language update. They do not describe every other kind of save transfer, including migration from the Switch cloud editions.

KHIII is not getting every language for the first time

The affected titles are Kingdom Hearts HD 1.5+2.5 ReMIX, Kingdom Hearts HD 2.8 Final Chapter Prologue, and Kingdom Hearts III + Re Mind. Square Enix identifies Simplified Chinese as the newly added subtitle language for KHIII. Its Korean announcement explicitly notes that KHIII already supports Korean.

That distinction matters when checking a store listing. The collection announcement is not a promise that every listed language is new to every included game. Confirm the language support of the specific edition you intend to buy.

If Chinese or Korean subtitles decide whether you will play, wait for the final regional product details before buying or starting a campaign. A future subtitle update does not guarantee that an English-version save will follow you.

If you are happy playing in English, this announcement gives you no language-related reason to delay. Keep the early-summer-2027 window in mind, but do not plan around a specific month, a universal save import, or a dated physical release until Square Enix confirms them.
