PlanetSide 2 Hotfix: Rocket Crash Exploit Targeted in October Update
PlanetSide 2's October 8 hotfix targets an unlimited-rocket exploit that could crash other players, plus a separate deadlock fix. Restart your client.
PlanetSide 2's October 8 hotfix targets an exploit that could crash other players' clients. According to the official patch notes, cheaters could generate unlimited rocket projectiles, overloading resources and disrupting other players on the server. The developer lists that exploit as fixed.
That makes this a session-stability update, not a rocket damage nerf. The reported problem was the ability to overwhelm game clients, so its impact extended beyond whoever was using the exploit.
A separate deadlock fix aims to reduce crashes
The update also addresses a task dispatcher deadlock. The developer says internal testing is complete and that the fix should lower the likelihood of crashes. It appears as a separate change from the unlimited-projectile exploit.
Those are specific repairs, not a promise that every crash or cheating problem is gone. Game Pelt has not independently tested either fix, and the notes do not provide before-and-after crash figures.

Restart the client before your next fight
This was a client-only rollout, with no server downtime required. The developer's instruction is to restart the game client to download and apply the update. You do not need to wait for a maintenance window to end.
Two smaller fixes come with it. Decals now display correctly on male VS Military Academy armor, and the loading screen shows the proper disconnection error if a player loses internet access while loading. The latter improves the message; it is not a fix for the player's connection.
Apply the update before your next session. If crashes continue, the announced fixes are a reason to check what remains wrong on the updated client, not a reason to dismiss those reports. For now, the useful change is a targeted repair for an exploit that could interrupt someone else's game.
