The Shop Is The Main Quest In These Three Games
Recettear, Potionomics, and Winkeltje all put a counter between you and success, but each one makes running the shop a completely different kind of problem.
A lot of games let you own a shop. Fewer are brave enough to make the shop the actual problem.
These three do not treat selling as a menu between adventures. Each one builds its progression around what happens behind the counter, then gives that work a different kind of pressure.
1. Recettear: An Item Shop's Tale

Recettear is still the cleanest argument for mixing an RPG with retail. Dungeon trips generate stock. Stock generates money. Money buys better options for the next trip. Neither half feels like a break from the other because progress keeps crossing the counter.
The debt schedule gives every decision teeth. A sword can be useful equipment, valuable inventory, or a bad purchase that sits on the shelf while the next payment approaches. The game is cute. The cash-flow problem is not.
Recettear is available on Steam.
2. Potionomics

Potionomics makes haggling the fight. Cards build interest, manage customer patience, and protect Sylvia from stress while the larger calendar keeps pushing toward the next competition and debt payment.
It looks cozy, but its schedule can be mean. Brewing, shopping, relationships, and sales all consume time. That pressure is the point: a good potion is only the start. You still have to turn it into enough money before the deadline arrives.
Potionomics is available on Steam.
3. Winkeltje: The Little Shop

Winkeltje removes the dungeon and asks whether the store itself can carry the game. It can. Shelves need stock, customers need room, prices need attention, and every expansion creates another patch of floor that has to earn its keep.
This is the pick for players who do not want combat interrupting the fantasy. The satisfaction comes from watching a messy room become a machine: goods arrive, displays fill, customers move cleanly, and the day closes with more options than it started.
Winkeltje is available on Steam.
Pick the pressure you want
Choose Recettear if you want the shop and adventure to feed each other. Choose Potionomics if you want selling to feel like a tactical conversation. Choose Winkeltje if the store itself is the world you want to master.
All three understand the same rule: the counter cannot be decoration. If running the shop is not making you think, the game has already missed the fantasy.
