Legacy of Atlantis Brings Back Larson, but the Shotgun Is the Point
Crystal Dynamics says Larson returns as Natla's hired gun in Tomb Raider: Legacy of Atlantis. Beat him, and Lara gets his shotgun.
Larson is back in Tomb Raider: Legacy of Atlantis, and Crystal Dynamics has finally made his return more than a familiar face from the old files.
The new Meet Larson feature confirms Bradley Snedeker is playing Larson Conway, Natla's hired gun and the first person Lara meets on the hunt for the Scion. More important for players, the studio says Larson is tied directly to progression: beat him, and Lara gets his shotgun.
That is the remake detail that matters. Nostalgia is nice. A rival who actually changes Lara's kit is better.

Larson Is Natla's First Move
The official breakdown places Larson in Natla's employ, working as the contact who pulls Lara into the Scion job. Crystal Dynamics also confirms Pierre Dupont is still in the mix as Larson's partner, which keeps the early antagonist setup closer to classic Tomb Raider than a clean one-villain pipeline.
That matters because Legacy of Atlantis is being sold as a reimagining, not a museum tour. The old skeleton is still there: Natla, Pierre, Larson, the Scion, and Lara walking into a job where everyone thinks they are smarter than her. The remake seems more interested in making those relationships readable and playable than just waving at them.
The Shotgun Detail Is the Hook
The best part is not that Larson exists. It is that defeating him gives Lara his shotgun.
That tells players two useful things. First, the remake is willing to attach classic character moments to actual progression. Second, weapons may land with more context than just "here is the next tool, try not to waste ammo." If Larson is carrying the shotgun, then taking it from him gives that upgrade a little bite.
Do not overread this as a full loot system. The official post confirms this specific reward, not an entire gear treadmill. Still, it is a smarter way to handle a familiar weapon. You beat the loud hired gun, you take the loud hired gun's gun. Clean transaction.

The Chemistry Has to Carry It
Crystal Dynamics is also clearly betting on Larson's relationship with Lara. The studio talks up the chemistry between Snedeker and Alix Wilton Regan, and the official copy frames Larson as charming, gruff, dangerous, and just reckless enough to think he can outplay Lara.
That balance is important. If he is too competent, he stops feeling like Larson. If he is only comic relief, he becomes dead weight. The useful version is a rival who can pressure Lara for a while, make the room more fun, then eventually learn that swagger is not a defensive stat.
What This Says About Legacy of Atlantis
This mini-doc does not reveal a new release date or a giant system overhaul. Tomb Raider: Legacy of Atlantis is still set for February 12, 2027 on PS5, Xbox Series X|S, Steam, and Nintendo Switch 2.
What it does confirm is more interesting than another platform reminder. Larson is being rebuilt as a proper early foil, Pierre is still part of the setup, Natla is still pulling strings, and the shotgun reward gives his encounter a real player-facing payoff.
That is the good version of remake work. Keep the bones. Make the moment hit harder. Then let Lara walk away better armed.
