Blizzard pitched WoW Forever as a way to keep expanding classic Azeroth without replacing Classic or modern WoW. At PAX Aus on October 9, Clay Stone showed the internal presentation behind that proposal, including slides from before the project had its public name.

The new material is the look at how the game was proposed and approved. It explains familiar design goals rather than announcing another set of release features.

Season of Discovery helped the team make its case

The pitch begins with the community's long-running interest in unfinished original-world content: zones, dungeons, storylines and characters that players wanted to explore. Stone also acknowledged that different players have different ideas of what Classic Plus should mean.

Season of Discovery gave the developers practical experience with adding content in that setting. Its experiments helped the team learn how to build beyond the original game, not just reproduce it.

That does not make Forever a direct continuation of every Discovery experiment. The relevant connection is development experience: a team learning how to add new encounters and systems without losing the setting players recognize.

Stone described the displayed material as the original pitch slides, with minor formatting changes and one summary slide from a later approval stage. That makes them useful evidence of the project's intended direction, but not a current production checklist.

A familiar Azeroth, with room for new stories

The presentation sets out four priorities: an approachable and familiar game, Azeroth as the focus, the leveling journey before the destination, and protection of social experiences. These principles help explain why new content is meant to feel like it could belong in the original world.

The exclusions are specific too. Forever was not proposed as a ground-up remake or a drastic replacement of Warcraft's art style. More content does not require making the game look or feel like a different series.

Stone also explained the year-one framing for its stories. It gives Forever room for additions without requiring modern WoW to immediately account for every new race, dungeon or narrative development. That is a storytelling boundary, not an announced mechanic that players activate.

Classic and modern WoW remain alongside Forever

The pitch positions Forever as a separate offering beside the existing versions. Classic continues on its own path, and the modern game continues its development rather than being replaced by this project.

For players, that separation matters more than the label Classic Plus. Forever can pursue new adventures within original Azeroth without promising that the same additions will arrive in every version of WoW.

The slides explain the ambition; they do not guarantee the quality of each future update. The useful test is the content itself: whether a new zone or dungeon offers something worth discovering while still feeling like part of the classic world.
