Standard Definition Skyborne characters and Druid forms are planned for early 2027 in WoW Forever. Players who prefer the older model style should not count on the newly announced option being ready for launch.

Blizzard is also revisiting HD Skyborne Druid forms. That is a separate visual project, and the announcement does not give those HD revisions an exact rollout date.

SD Skyborne is a later model choice

The initial SD and HD character toggle focused on races from original World of Warcraft. Blizzard says many players have an attachment to those familiar models, but agrees that HD Skyborne can look jarring beside the SD characters and world.

The planned SD option addresses that contrast. It includes ordinary Skyborne player characters and SD Druid forms, rather than leaving Druids out of the lower-fidelity choice.

Early 2027 is a release window, not a specific day or patch number. Blizzard has shown a work-in-progress image and says it will share more information closer to arrival. The preview shows the artistic direction; it does not establish every finished customization option or animation.

HD Druid forms are getting another artistic pass

For its HD Druid-form example, Blizzard describes reducing softness, adding detailed fur textures and adjusting color saturation. The race's unusual origins are still part of the design, but the team wants its creatures to fit better with the visual language of the surrounding world.

That distinction matters when reading the images. The before-and-after example concerns the HD form revision. The early-2027 window concerns SD player characters and SD Druid forms. The announcement does not say every pictured change is already available in beta.

What this means for your launch character

This gives players a clearer visual roadmap, not a new reason to change a race ranking. The announcement does not establish changes to Skyborne racials, talents or combat performance.

If the SD look is essential to the character you want, keep its later arrival in mind before committing to a launch plan. If you already like the HD option, the additional model choice is something to watch rather than a requirement to reroll.

The useful next announcement is a dated release notice for the finished SD feature. Until then, choose based on the model options actually available when you play, not the unfinished preview.
