Complete Ascending with Venomstones before farming Ascendant Venomstones in WoW Midnight. The currency is now available, but its unlock quests still matter. Once you have 10 stones, you can use them near the Catalyst in Silvermoon City to improve an eligible Season 2 weapon, trinket or necklace.

Do not start with the assumption that every fully upgraded item qualifies. The item needs the right slot, season and upgrade track as well as its normal upgrades completed.

Follow Orin's quest chain in Silvermoon

If you have not started the Catalyst-related chain, accept In the Catalyst's Shadow from Decimus in Voidstorm. Then visit Orin Straylight in Silvermoon City for Prismatic Potential.

Orin's earlier research leads to Umbral Blessings of the Catalyst. That step concerns the additional weekly Nebulous Voidcore, which is a bonus-roll currency. It is not the Venomstone unlock itself.

Continue with Ancient Depths, Ancient Venom, then complete Ascending with Venomstones when Orin offers it. Blizzard's October 20 hotfix explicitly confirms that Ascendant Venomstones become available after that quest.

The original patch schedule described Orin's research opening across several weekly resets. Those dates explain the rollout; they are not a reason to invent a fresh multi-week wait for a returning character. Follow the quest and research state currently shown in game.

Earn stones from the right activities

The official sources are Heroic and Mythic raid bosses, Mythic+ Keystone dungeons at +10 and above, Tier 11 Bountiful Delves, and Nightmare Prey Hunt Champion gear chests.

The difficulty and reward type are part of the requirement. A lower Keystone, an ordinary Delve or a different chest is not the same source. Before choosing a run specifically for stones, check both the activity and whether you have finished Ascending with Venomstones.

Choose among the qualifying activities you can reliably complete. This is not a fastest-farm ranking, and there is no reason to plan around a difficult run your character or group cannot finish simply because it appears on the source list.

Spend ten stones on an eligible item

Return to the Catalyst in Silvermoon City with at least 10 Ascendant Venomstones. Use the stones there on the item you intend to improve.

For Season 2 Hero and Myth gear, the weapon, trinket or necklace must already be fully upgraded on its normal track. Maximum-quality Tidal Crafted weapons, trinkets and necklaces also qualify.

Check the slot separately from the track. A fully upgraded helmet is still the wrong slot. A weapon in the correct slot can still fail because its ordinary upgrades are unfinished. The stones are not a substitute for completing those normal upgrades.

If an item is rejected, inspect its season, slot, upgrade track and quality before treating the result as a bug. Then read the current item tooltip and available upgrade preview rather than relying on an old PTR item-level chart.

Nebulous Voidcores and Ascendant Venomstones solve different problems: one provides a bonus loot roll, while the other improves an item you already own. Finish the acquisition quest, collect from an eligible activity and choose a qualifying piece before spending your ten stones.
