TBC Anniversary Catch-Up: Heroic Keys, Raid Access and Badges After Zul'Aman
Heroic keys now require Honored, Black Temple and Hyjal attunements are gone, and more raid bosses award Badges. Here is what to check on a returning level 70.
TBC Anniversary's Zul'Aman update lowers the reputation needed to buy standard Heroic dungeon keys to Honored and removes the entry attunements for The Black Temple and The Battle for Mount Hyjal. More raid bosses also award Badges of Justice. If you are returning at level 70, check those changes before picking up an old attunement or reputation grind.
The useful distinction is access versus readiness. Getting through a raid entrance is easier now. That does not mean a fresh character is equipped for every encounter or that a group will take an unprepared player.
Check Heroic keys before grinding more reputation
The standard reputation requirement to purchase a Heroic dungeon key is now Honored. If an older guide tells you to reach Revered before buying one, that entry requirement is outdated for this Anniversary update.
The key requirement itself has not been removed. Check the key and faction for the dungeon you want to run, and confirm what your character already has before purchasing anything. Existing access does not need to be bought a second time.
Heroic dungeons also move to their final, reduced difficulty state. That makes them worth reconsidering if an earlier run put you off, but do not confuse reduced difficulty with a reason to ignore mechanics or your group's preparation.
Black Temple and Hyjal no longer need attunement
You no longer need to finish the entry attunements for The Black Temple or The Battle for Mount Hyjal. If the only reason you were following those chains was access to the raid, they are no longer the prerequisite holding up your next run.
Zul'Aman needs no attunement either. It is a ten-player, level-70 raid in the Ghostlands with a three-day reset. That gives a smaller group a new option, but its hostage rescue timer is a separate challenge. Agree whether the group wants a first clear or a timed run before entering.
Removing an attunement does not remove the bosses. Choose a group appropriate to your experience and equipment rather than assuming every newly accessible raid is an immediate gearing shortcut.
More raids now pay out Badges of Justice
All bosses in Karazhan, Gruul's Lair, Magtheridon's Lair, Serpentshrine Cavern, Tempest Keep and Zul'Aman can now drop Badges of Justice. Doomlord Kazzak and Doomwalker also award them.
That gives an older raid a second reason to consider it: the group may still want specific equipment drops, while the Badge rewards contribute toward another purchase. This is not a claim that every raid is equally quick or efficient. Pick content your group can reliably complete.
G'eras in Shattrath has expanded his Badge offerings, including Nether Vortex. Inspect his stock and identify an actual upgrade or needed material before spending. Buying something simply because it has appeared on the vendor is an easy way to delay the purchase you wanted.
Primal Nether and Nether Vortex are no longer soulbound. Check the available ways to obtain the material you need rather than treating an old soulbound restriction as current.
Give your first session one clear target
Start with the access check for the dungeon or raid you intend to run. If a standard Heroic key is still missing, work toward its current Honored purchase requirement. If your group wants Black Temple or Hyjal, do not schedule an obsolete entry-attunement grind first.
Then choose a suitable run and a specific Badge purchase to work toward. You do not need to clear every old reputation task before making progress. Focus on the requirement or equipment gap that actually stops your next group from playing.
