Endless Legend 2: Your First Empire Should Be Boring On Purpose
A stable first city, one dependable army, and a patient expansion plan will teach you more than a flashy empire that collapses before the tide changes.
Endless Legend 2 punishes the usual 4X instinct to click every shiny button. Your first campaign is easier when the empire is deliberately plain: one useful city, one army that can survive contact, and an economy that is not balancing on a single resource.
Pick the faction that teaches the game
The Kin of Sheredyn is the cleanest starting point. Its defensive strengths give you room to learn the map, city growth, combat, and diplomacy without also learning a faction economy built around an exception. Save the stranger factions for a second campaign, when you know which rules they are breaking.
Scout before you lock the capital
You do not need to settle on the first legal tile. Move carefully for a turn or two and look for a region with food, industry, and room to expand. The first city receives catch-up help, so a short delay can be worth it when the nearby terrain is clearly better.

Build the economy you actually need
Food grows population. Industry finishes districts and units. Science unlocks options. Dust buys time. Influence claims territory and shapes diplomacy. The trap is treating one yield as the answer to everything. Early on, prioritize enough food to grow, enough industry to finish useful construction, and enough influence to stop a neighbor from fencing you in.
Dust is not just a score. It can pull a slow city forward when one missing unit or building is holding up the entire plan. Spend it to solve a bottleneck, not because the buyout button is glowing.
Use one real army, not three paper ones
The map is not empty space between cities. Neutral threats, rival scouts, and unexpected fights punish tiny exploration stacks. Keep units together, take favorable fights for loot and experience, and leave a dependable force close enough to protect the core.

Prepare for tidefall before it happens
Tidefall exposes new land, resources, and routes. It also gives everyone else new places to rush. Keep an army near the core before the map changes, then scout the revealed ground quickly. Expanding late means paying more influence for worse borders.
Treat population and council choices as a build
Integrated cultures and council bonuses are not flavor text. They decide what your empire does efficiently. Pick bonuses that reinforce the economy and army you already have instead of collecting every available effect and hoping the pile becomes a strategy.
A safe first 20 turns
- Scout nearby regions before settling, but do not wander so far that the capital arrives late.
- Build for food and industry first, then patch science, Dust, or influence according to the map.
- Keep the first army together and take fights you can finish cleanly.
- Claim contested territory before the AI turns it into an expensive border problem.
- Have a home defense force ready before tidefall changes the board.
That route is not glamorous. It is supposed to be reliable. Once it survives, you can start doing the weird faction-specific nonsense Endless Legend 2 is actually built for.
