The Planet Crafter encourages base building early, but a large starting base slows progression. Prioritize equipment that increases oxygen capacity, inventory space and safe exploration range.

Decorative construction can wait until basic survival and exploration are reliable. Use early materials on upgrades that improve every resource trip.

Upgrade oxygen to extend exploration range

A larger oxygen tank does more than delay a warning beep. It expands the amount of wreckage, ore and blueprint chips you can reach on one trip. That makes oxygen upgrades one of the few early crafts that improve almost every other job at once.

Carry the materials for a basic living compartment and door when exploring. A small shelter provides an oxygen refill point and safe temporary storage. It does not need additional rooms or decoration.

Backpack space beats a second storage wall

Storage crates solve clutter at home. Backpack upgrades solve clutter everywhere. The difference matters because the expensive part of gathering is the walk. If one trip brings back another stack of aluminum, iridium or food, the upgrade has already started paying for itself.

Keep one container near the door for expedition supplies: water, oxygen, food and the materials for an emergency shelter. This reduces preparation time and prevents important supplies from being spread across multiple storage boxes.

Build small shelters along exploration routes

A small room near a wreck or resource area creates a reliable oxygen and storage point. Add a beacon when the technology becomes available so important locations remain easy to find.

Do not overbuild every outpost. A compartment, door and a little storage are enough. The main base needs production. The field bases only need to keep you alive and shorten the run back.

Push terraforming because it unlocks convenience

Heat, pressure and oxygen levels unlock equipment that improves survival and exploration. Build machines across all three categories instead of spending every resource on a single terraforming statistic.

This is also why an enormous decorative build is a bad opening project. Machines advance the planet. Advancing the planet unlocks better tools. Better tools make the enormous decorative build much less tedious later.

Secure food before the starting stash becomes a problem

The food in crates feels generous until it suddenly does not. Scan and build the path toward food growers early, keep seeds instead of treating them as junk, and avoid eating through every ration just because the meter is below full.

Mark iridium, aluminum and useful wrecks

Iridium and aluminum quickly become recurring needs. When you find a productive area, drop a beacon or establish a mini base. Likewise, do not leave blueprint microchips buried in a random chest. Bring them home and decode them; several quality-of-life unlocks are hiding behind that routine.

The short version

Build only enough base space to support survival and crafting, then prioritize oxygen, inventory, food security and exploration shelters. Large or decorative construction becomes easier after better equipment and production systems are unlocked.
