Enshrouded Progression: Springlands to Revelwood

A step-by-step route through Enshrouded's early game, from building your first base in Springlands to preparing for Revelwood. Each stage covers the craftspeople, travel tools and Flame upgrades you need, with crafting ingredients, where to find them and help when an unlock isn't working.

Follow Claim A Spot For Your Base after leaving the starting Cinder Vault. Gather 5 Stone.

Claims a building area for your home and gives you a base fast-travel destination. You do not need to find your permanent home before starting.

    Plains quest objectives and location
    1. Track Claim A Spot For Your Base and head to the recommended Plains marker. It is a suggested site, not the only place the quest allows.
    2. Pick up 5 Stone and craft a Flame Altar in manual crafting. Use ordinary Stone for this first altar; you do not need to hunt for a later-region stone type.
    3. Place the altar on buildable ground above the Shroud. Check its marked boundary before deciding where your shelter and crafting stations will go.
    4. Speak to the Flame at the placed altar. The opening quest includes this conversation after placement; do not leave as soon as the altar appears.
    5. Keep the first base small: space for a Workbench, a roofed sleeping area and your rescued Blacksmith. Build the larger house later if you want one.

    Ingredients

Any StoneCollect loose stone around your starting area. The recipe accepts eligible stone types, not Flintstone.
    5

    Ready to move on when

The altar is placed, you have spoken to the Flame, and your planned Workbench fits inside the claimed area.

    If you're stuck

An altar-area upgrade expands this base. Strengthen the Flame is a separate action; neither upgrade is needed just to place your first Workbench.

Do I have to build on the quest marker?

No. The quest allows another location above the Shroud. The marked Plains site is the simplest recommendation for this route, not a mandatory plot.

I placed the altar, but the quest is still active.

Interact with the Flame and finish its conversation. Placement and talking to the Flame are separate objectives.

Place the altar. Gather 8 Wood Logs and 3 String, or 9 Plant Fiber to make that String manually.

Gives you a repair point, building-block recipes and access to early equipment crafting. Repair here before heading for the Blacksmith.

    1. Gather Plant Fiber and make 3 String in manual crafting. The early recipe uses 3 Plant Fiber per String, so reserve 9 Plant Fiber for this Workbench alone.
    2. Gather 8 Wood Logs from trees. Do not count Twigs or Shroud Wood toward this starter recipe.
    3. Find Workbench in the Essentials category of manual crafting and craft it. You do not need Oswald or a spinning station for this step.
    4. Place the crafted Workbench inside the altar boundary, then interact with it. Keeping the item in your backpack does not create a usable station.
    5. Use the repair function and inspect your equipment's condition before leaving. The same bench will be useful for your next traversal-tool unlocks.

    Ready to move on when

You can open the placed Workbench's crafting menu and repair your equipment there.

    If you're stuck

The recipe and placement have different requirements: carry the ingredients to craft it, then stand inside your claimed base to place it.

Do I need the Hunter to make String?

No. Use manual crafting for the first 3 String. Spinning Wheel and Spinning Machine recipes are later alternatives, not prerequisites for this bench.

    Why won't the Workbench place?

Check the Flame Altar boundary and choose a clear position inside it. Moving the bench outside the claimed area will not bypass that restriction.

    1. Track Find the Sleeping Survivor in your journal. Follow this quest's survivor marker rather than choosing a different Ancient Vault icon on the map.
    2. Cross the Shroud while watching the timer. Remember your route back to clear air and leave time to retreat; the marker does not make the fog safe.
    3. At Ancient Vault - Blacksmith, enter and find the sleeping survivor. Interact with his Cinder Vessel to awaken Oswald.
    4. Check the journal before leaving. The next objective should be to summon the survivor, rather than continuing to search for him.
    5. Return to your base for the Summoning Staff step below. You do not have to escort a walking NPC all the way home.

    Ready to move on when

Oswald has been awakened and the rescue quest has advanced to summoning him at home.

    If you're stuck

Visiting the vault is not the rescue interaction. If the journal still asks you to awaken the survivor, return to the Cinder Vessel and interact with it.

I've reached a vault, but the Blacksmith isn't here.

Check that your tracked marker is for Find the Sleeping Survivor and the destination is Ancient Vault - Blacksmith. Other survivors have separate vaults.

Why is he missing from my base after the rescue?

That is expected until you summon him. Complete the next milestone using the Summoning Staff; returning home alone does not place him.

    1. After rescuing Oswald, craft the Summoning Staff in manual crafting using 1 Twigs. It is a build tool, not a combat spell or an Alchemist recipe.
    2. Equip the staff at your base, select Oswald and place him inside the altar's building area.
    3. Provide a bed beneath a roof. Use the staff's bed-assignment interaction to give him that bed, then check the survivor's bed and shelter indicators.
    4. Speak to Oswald and inspect his crafting menu and available quests. If a recipe lists another workshop or a material you do not have, that is a further requirement, not a failed rescue.
    5. Repair at the Workbench before moving on to the Glider and Grappling Hook stage. Keep following Oswald's new leads as they become available.

    If you're stuck

Do not assume a roof or nearby bed has registered. Check the survivor's indicators after placement and assignment.

Oswald isn't available in the Summoning Staff.

Check that the rescue quest advanced past awakening him. Reaching the vault entrance does not recruit him.

He is home, but a recipe is still unavailable.

Check shelter first, then the recipe's own ingredient, workshop and quest requirements. Summoning a craftsperson does not supply every station or unlock every recipe.

Makes high ground useful for travel. It is an equipped tool with a stamina cost, not unlimited flight.

    1. Make a short trip into reachable Springlands Shroud. Chop dead trees for 8 Shroud Wood and loot Fell enemies for 2 Shroud Spores; ordinary logs will not replace Shroud Wood.
    2. Gather 2 Animal Fur and make 2 String. Keep enough materials for this recipe rather than spending them all on the next crafting job.
    3. Return home, open the Workbench and craft the basic Glider. Collecting an ingredient can reveal the recipe, but you still need the complete ingredient list to craft it.
    4. Open Character and equip it in the Glider slot. Check the gliding input in your controls, then test from a low, safe ledge with a clear landing.
    5. Watch stamina while airborne. Pick your landing before jumping; the basic Glider does not remove the need for a safe route.

    If you're stuck

A Glider in your backpack cannot deploy. Check the equipment slot before changing controls or making another one.

The recipe is missing. What should I check?

Use the Workbench, not Oswald's menu, and collect the listed materials. The recipe is associated with owning a Workbench and discovering its ingredients.

Why do I drop out of a glide?

Check your stamina and launch height. Start with short practice jumps; a long crossing is not a useful first equipment test.

    1. Loot Scavengers and breakable objects for scraps, and Fell enemies for Spores. If you also need the Glider, reserve 12 Spores and 9 String for the two tools together.
    2. Craft Grappling Hook at the Workbench. You do not need the Carpenter's improved version for this milestone.
    3. Equip it in the Grappling Hook slot on the Character screen. Approach a visible grapple anchor until its interaction prompt appears.
    4. Let stamina recover, then use the prompted input. Check your controls rather than assuming a keyboard binding applies to your device.

    Ready to move on when

The basic hook is equipped and you can use an anchor successfully.

    If you're stuck

The hook needs an anchor; it cannot attach to an arbitrary tree, wall or cliff. The basic version also spends stamina.

I can see the anchor, but there is no prompt.

Check the equipment slot, then move closer and face the anchor. Carrying the hook without equipping it is not enough.

Should I wait for the improved hook?

No. Craft and equip the basic hook now. The improved tool is a separate later upgrade, not a requirement for this stage.

Adds skill points through exploration. You can work on nearby roots before or after the spire; these stages are a suggested route, not a strict quest lock.

    1. Pick an objective you have not already cleared on this character. If following Oswald's quest, track Clear The Elixir Well and use its marker.
    2. Enter with time to fight and leave again. Deal with the defenders rather than trying to stand still at the root while enemies attack.
    3. Use the Felling Axe to destroy the Shroud Root. Reaching a well or killing its defender alone is not the root-clearing objective.
    4. Check the completion marker and your skill points afterward. Spend the points before moving to a harder location; choose a different uncleared root for another first-clear reward.

    Ready to move on when

You have destroyed a previously uncleared root and checked the completion marker and skill-point reward.

    If you're stuck

Roots can respawn. Recutting one already completed on your character is not a repeatable source of first-clear skill points.

I beat the enemy, but the quest is unfinished.

Look for the root itself and cut it down with a Felling Axe. The well quest explicitly separates entering from destroying the root.

Why didn't I get another skill point?

Check whether this character has already cleared the location. A respawned root is not necessarily a new objective.

    2. Reach the Springlands tower and use its interior route to ascend. Follow the tower's traversal interactions upward instead of treating arrival at the entrance as completion.
    3. Reach the top to unlock its fast-travel point. Speak to the Flame there as well; that conversation completes the quest and reveals surrounding information.
    4. Check the map for the unlocked travel destination and newly revealed leads. Choose a nearby unfinished objective before setting off across the region.

    Ready to move on when

The top has been reached, the Flame conversation is finished and the spire is available as a travel destination.

    If you're stuck

Discovering the tower icon is not the same as finishing it. The summit and the conversation are the useful checks.

Why is the quest still asking me to speak to the Flame?

Climbing unlocks travel, but the quest has a separate conversation objective. Finish speaking to the Flame at the top.

The quest isn't in my journal.

Return to Oswald and finish his earlier available objectives. You do not need to abandon your base or make another Glider to reveal a quest.

    1. Collect the Spark at a Flame Shrine or Sanctum while exploring. Keep raw Penny Buns and Animal Fur for the offering instead of spending everything on food or equipment.
    2. Bring the listed offerings back to the altar and select Strengthen the Flame. If the screen asks for Shroud Cores and shows building dimensions, leave that menu: it is the base-area upgrade.
    3. Check that the screen shows the upgrade from Flame level 1 to 2, supply the offerings and confirm it. Use your in-game list as the final check if your installed version differs.

Do I need a Fell Thunderbrute Head for level 2?

Not in the reviewed 1.0.0.2 offering list. Older early-access instructions can differ; compare the list below with your current altar menu.

    1. Check survivor leads from the Flame and your rescued craftspeople. Track one rescue at a time so you follow the right vault marker.
    2. For ranged armor, work toward Athalan Skree, the Hunter; for magic armor, Balthazar, the Alchemist. Oswald handles your early warrior equipment.
    3. Awaken the survivor at the marked vault, return home and place them using the Summoning Staff. Check shelter and bed requirements as you did for Oswald.

    If you're stuck

Rescuing a craftsperson and obtaining their workshops are separate jobs. A recipe can remain blocked after a successful rescue.

Must I finish every survivor quest before Revelwood?

No. This route asks you to establish useful crafting access, not clear the entire quest journal. Follow the specific requirements of your next upgrade.

I rescued someone, but can't use their crafting.

Summon them at home and check shelter, then read the recipe's requirements. A person still waiting in your staff selection is not a placed crafting station.

    1. Open the relevant survivor's armor recipes after the Flame upgrade. In 1.0, raising the Flame opens armor recipes for the following crafting tier.
    2. Inspect one useful piece and note its exact ingredients and any missing workshop. Pin an important recipe in the journal if you want to keep its requirements handy.
    3. Gather those ingredients or complete the named station quest, then craft the piece. Rescuing additional survivors will not substitute for a station listed by the recipe.
    4. Compare its bonuses with your existing equipment, equip the pieces you want and repair before leaving. Looted gear can still be useful; this route does not require replacing every slot at once.

    Ready to move on when

You have checked the new tier and equipped the upgrades you chose, or deliberately kept better-suited existing gear.

    If you're stuck

Recipe visibility, ingredient availability and equipped armor are three different checks. Identify which one is actually blocking you.

Will picking up a higher-tier material unlock the set?

For the 1.0 armor-tier change, check Flame strengthening first. Material pickups still matter for crafting, but do not replace that tier unlock.

Do I need to farm a full matching set immediately?

Not for this checklist. Prioritize pieces that improve your current equipment and support your playstyle; the next readiness check matters more than a matching appearance.

    1. Open Skills and check your unspent points. Leveling alone does not mean those points have been assigned.
    2. Read nodes relevant to the weapon and resources you use. If stamina or survival is the immediate problem, consider those needs alongside damage.
    3. Follow the connected prerequisites to reach the node you want. A point total alone does not bypass a required earlier node.
    4. Apply your choices and test them in a familiar encounter. Revisit the tree after the next new root or level rather than leaving points unused through several trips.

    Ready to move on when

You have reviewed your available points and allocated the skills you want for your current equipment.

    If you're stuck

The 1.0 update reset existing skill trees. Returning players should not assume their old allocations are still active.

    Why can't I select a farther skill?

Read its requirements and follow the connected path. Some nodes require earlier skills before they can be purchased.

    3. Fight with the weapon you have prepared. Community advice consistently warns about poison: keep moving out of the attack area instead of standing still to finish a combo. Do not rely on an old high-ground exploit as the route.
    4. After the fight, check the loot for Scavenger Matron Helmet and reserve one for the Flame. The quest also leads toward an Improved Grappling Hook, but crafting that tool is not this offering's requirement.

    Ready to move on when

You have one Scavenger Matron Helmet reserved for the Flame level 3 offering.

    If you're stuck

If the fight is overwhelming, return to repairs, food, armor and skill points. A quest marker is not a guarantee that your current setup is ready.

Can I use a Fell Thunderbrute Head instead?

No. The level 3 offering names Scavenger Matron Helmet. Keep the exact item rather than a different boss head or a crafted trophy.

Do I need the Carpenter's improved hook before upgrading?

The helmet and the improved-hook quest are related, but the Flame offering requires the helmet item. It does not list an Improved Grappling Hook.

    Ready to move on when

The altar's Strengthen the Flame menu shows level 3; the offerings and survivor requirement have been accepted.

    If you're stuck

A full ingredient list is not sufficient if the survivor requirement is still unmet. A larger altar building area does not satisfy it either.

    Why won't my Mycelium count?

Use ordinary Mycelium. Active Mycelium and Acidic Mycelium are different materials; check the item name rather than its similar appearance.

I can already walk toward Revelwood. Is the upgrade optional?

An outdoor route is not the same as Shroud access. This guide prepares Flame level 3 for the region's Shroud progression; it does not claim the entire biome has an invisible entrance wall.

    1. Repair weapons and tools at the Workbench, then check that your intended armor, Glider and hook are equipped rather than sitting in your backpack.
    2. Eat food suited to your build and carry healing you can access during a fight. For bows or spellcasting, check the ammunition or charges your weapon requires.

    Ready to move on when

    If you're stuck

Different world difficulty settings change readiness. There is no single character level or damage number that guarantees success for every setup.

The armor is upgraded, but I still die quickly.

Check food, healing access, skill allocations and how you avoid attacks, not just the armor name. Return to a familiar encounter to identify the problem.

Should I finish every Springlands side quest first?

No. Prioritize useful unlocks and manageable unfinished exploration. An empty journal is not a requirement for the next expedition.

    Where
Ancient Spire - Revelwood, north of the Springlands region
    Before you go
Finish the readiness check. Emily Fray's Reclaim The Wilderness points to the Revelwood spire when available.

Establishes a repeat-use fast-travel point for the new region so subsequent crafting and exploration trips need not repeat the whole approach.

    Revelwood spire location reference
    1. Track Reclaim The Wilderness if Emily has offered it, or use the Ancient Spire - Revelwood location on your map. Choose the Revelwood tower, not a Springlands or Low Meadows tower.
    2. Approach with enough supplies to return safely. Do not treat a red or otherwise unsafe Shroud route as harmless just because the destination is marked.
    3. Enter the tower and work upward through its traversal route to the summit. Optional loot is secondary to establishing the travel point on this first visit.
    4. Speak to the Flame at the top and check the unlocked fast-travel destination on your map. Revisit your survivor workshop quests and gather what your next equipment recipes need.

    Ready to move on when

You have reached the Revelwood summit and confirmed its fast-travel destination on the map.

    If you're stuck

Arriving at the tower's exterior does not establish the travel point. Reach the top before treating this stage as complete.

Is this the end of Enshrouded's progression?

No. It ends this early-game route. Continue Revelwood exploration, survivor tool quests and equipment crafting before choosing your next region.

What should I work on after activating the spire?

Open the recipe or survivor quest tied to your next useful upgrade. Use the new fast-travel point for those gathering trips rather than immediately chasing a farther biome.

Sources and version notes

This is a suggested early-game route, not a complete quest walkthrough or a required order for every player. Recipes and quest objectives were checked against the fan-maintained gaming.tools database, primarily version 1.0.0.2, alongside the developer's 1.0 changes and hotfix 1.0.0.3 notes. World settings can change the difficulty; your current in-game recipe and quest screen takes priority if it differs.
