Halloween: The Game's 1.0.3 patch makes surrounding Michael after a knockdown a riskier fight. When he gets up, he now gains temporary stagger immunity, more damage resistance, stronger melee hits and faster melee attacks. IllFonic's September 22 patch notes also reduce several civilian damage bonuses and the number of heavy weapons available across maps.

The update puts specific changes behind last week's balance plans. It also restores Passive Challenge progress after Prestiging, though the challenges can still look locked.

Michael gets stronger after a knockdown

His recovery includes short boosts to health regeneration and daze resistance. The notes give no exact duration or percentage for these buffs. For civilians, the practical implication is to make space when he stands up rather than count on another immediate stagger.

Michael's damage resistance also increases at every Bloodthirst level. High Capability contributes less civilian melee damage, while low Capability contributes more. Heavyweight grants less fear resistance and melee damage, and the damage bonus while Drunk is reduced.

Wood Axe and Pick-Axe combos slow down, and both weapons lose light and heavy attack damage. Melee durability is reduced overall. Fewer heavy melee weapons, rifles and shotguns spawn across maps, so repeatedly replacing strong gear should be less reliable. Shotguns still gain damage at close range; lower availability does not mean weaker shots.

There are some easier escapes for civilians. Struggling free gets easier at Stalk Tiers 0–2, and failed grabs push civilians less forcefully. Pocket Knife escapes become slightly harder, however, and high Capability contributes less to grab struggles.

Prestige progress resumes despite locked labels

Passive Challenges should now keep progressing after Prestiging. IllFonic calls this a temporary fix because the locked appearance still needs work. A locked label alone is therefore not proof that progress has stopped, but the notes do not promise to restore previously lost progress.

The challenge adjustments include some large cuts. Laurie's Final Girl survival requirement drops from 30 nights to 15. Bob's Batter Up knockdown requirement falls from 60 to 30. Check individual targets: Richard's Born to Live moves the other way, from nine civilian survivals to ten.

Update, September 22: If your Progressive Challenge progress is already above a revised target, IllFonic says you need to make more progress toward that same objective to complete it. This is separate from the Passive Challenge display problem after Prestiging.

Private Match hosts also get a fix for blocked trophy and achievement unlocks. On Michael's side, Shape Jump and Killer Sense should no longer get stuck on cooldown for the rest of a match.

Install 1.0.3 before retesting an affected challenge or ability. IllFonic lists crash fixes too, but provides no platform-by-platform rollout schedule or guarantee that every crash is resolved. The clearest reason to return is the progression repair; the biggest combat adjustment is giving Michael room when he gets back up.
