Silent Hill: Townfall is close enough that starting a 100-hour RPG would be irresponsible. These five horror games are shorter, distinct from one another, and good at the same basic trick: making ordinary spaces feel unsafe.

This is not a ranking of every great horror game. It is a focused warm-up list built around atmosphere, spatial tension, resource pressure, and the kind of uncertainty Townfall appears ready to exploit.

1. Silent Hill 2

Bloober Team's remake understands that Silent Hill is most effective when it gives dread time to breathe. The combat is deliberately uncomfortable, the streets feel wrong even when nothing is moving, and James Sunderland remains a difficult person to inhabit. Play this for the oppressive mood and the slow realization that the town is not the only thing hiding information.

2. SIGNALIS

SIGNALIS compresses classic survival-horror tension into a sharp science-fiction nightmare. Inventory limits force real decisions, puzzles reward attention, and its fractured storytelling trusts the player to connect ugly pieces. It is short enough to finish before Townfall arrives and strange enough to stay in your head afterward.

3. Resident Evil 2

Resident Evil 2 is still the best classroom for understanding space, resources, and pursuit. The police station slowly turns from a maze into a place you know intimately, then Mr. X makes that knowledge feel inadequate. It is more action-forward than Silent Hill, but its control of routes and scarce ammunition remains excellent.

4. Amnesia: The Bunker

The Bunker gives you tools, a hostile underground space, and a creature that refuses to follow a polite script. Fuel, noise, light, and escape routes all matter. The result is horror built from your own decisions: every clever shortcut can become the loud mistake that traps you on the wrong side of a door.

5. Crow Country

Crow Country wears its PlayStation-era inspiration openly, but it is too carefully made to survive on nostalgia alone. The theme-park setting is readable, the puzzles are satisfying, and the cheerful surfaces make the rot underneath land harder. It is approachable, clever, and a useful reminder that horror does not need photorealism to make a room feel unsafe.

Townfall does not need to resemble any one of these games to benefit from the same discipline. Good horror controls what the player knows, what they can afford, and how quickly they can leave. These five all understand that fear works better when the game gives you just enough control to blame yourself.
