Do not claim the first station that lets you open the menu. Cosmos makes ownership look like a finish line, but the station you choose determines where you keep returning, what you donate, and whether the billion-unit bill feels like an investment or a mistake.

Check three stations before committing

Open the Station Core inside an unclaimed station and read every requirement. The broad structure is consistent, but accepted guild donations can vary. A station that wants items already filling your storage is dramatically cheaper in time than one asking for resources you never keep.

Also check the system itself. Look at nearby planets, the local economy, the star color, portals you use regularly, and whether friends or an alliance would have a reason to visit. A prettier concourse cannot fix a useless address.

Build the salvage kit first

Before taking salvage contracts, install the tractor beam on a Corvette and unlock the Gravity-No Coil for the Multi-Tool. The loop sends you into deep space to pull physical salvage from wreckage and haul it to outposts. Starting without the right hardware turns a simple job into a wasted trip.

Leave cargo space on the Corvette. A ship packed with decorative rooms but nowhere to put salvage is a very expensive hallway.

Clear the four ownership gates

  • Raise standing with the local race to 30. Give the correct race-specific gifts or run local missions.
  • Raise standing with the station's guild to 15. Donations are usually the fastest route when you already own accepted items.
  • Complete five salvage contracts from deep-space outposts.
  • Bring one billion units for the final claim.

The standing grind is where station selection pays off. Xaine's World demonstrated that repeatedly donating a stocked race-specific item can finish the local reputation requirement quickly. It is dull, but it is better than pretending thirty slow missions are character building.

Do not spend the billion too early

Keep a buffer for construction materials, ship changes, and ordinary travel. If paying for the station empties your account, finish a money route first. Ownership unlocks a project; it does not complete one.

Upload before you walk away

When you change the station interior or exterior, return to the Station Core and upload the build. NMS Scottish Rod's walkthrough highlights the ugly consequence of forgetting: a reload can erase work that was never uploaded. Save after meaningful construction passes, not after the entire evening.

The clean route

Compare stations, choose the useful system, install the salvage tools, clear reputation with stocked donations, finish the five contracts, and only then pay the billion. Cosmos wants the station to feel like a home. Give yourself a reason to come back to it.
