The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt Remastered will reset every skill point when the free upgrade launches on September 29. CD Projekt Red has rebuilt the skill system into a prerequisite-based tree with three ranks per skill, so existing builds cannot carry across unchanged.

That is the change to prepare for before loading an old save. The update is free to anyone who owns a physical or digital version on the same platform ecosystem. It launches on PC, PlayStation 5, Xbox Series X|S and Nintendo Switch 2.

Old builds need rebuilding

The revised tree no longer asks players to spend a fixed number of points before reaching later skills. Individual skills now require specific prerequisite skills, while bonus values, effects and synergies have been rebalanced.

Equipment can also be reforged to change its appearance without changing its stats. Yoana and Hattori provide the service, and players unlock appearances by collecting equipment and crafting diagrams. Blood and Wine dyes carry over to reforged gear.

Combat behavior has been polished for many non-boss monsters. Geralt gets smoother gap closing, climbing and vaulting, while the camera gains separate exploration and dynamic combat options. Target switching should also behave better when the camera moves.

PC players should check the new requirements

The Remastered upgrade raises the PC system requirements. It adds native DirectX 12 rendering, path tracing, DLSS 4.5 with Ray Reconstruction, FSR 4 with Frame Generation and Anti-Lag 2, and XeSS 2.0 with Frame Generation and Low Latency.

Install current graphics drivers before updating. This is not just a texture pack, and an older machine that handled the original release may not deliver the same performance after the upgrade.

Looting and mods get less awkward

Nearby loot can be grouped into one window, items can be collected without dismounting Roach, and a new loot feed shows recently collected gear. The map also gets more markers and clearer handling for tracked and untracked quests.

Cross-platform mod support arrives through an in-game mod.io browser. Photo Mode expands with placeable characters, poses, weather controls, camera presets and a first-person option.

The official Witcher 3 Remastered patch notes also list platform-specific features, accessibility options and quest fixes.
