WARDOGS has pulled IR Rangefinders out of the vendor until Season 2, and that is not a tiny cleanup note. BULKHEAD says the tool crossed the line into being too strong, so the current answer is simple: if your squad was leaning on easy information, start planning fights without it.

The same official hotfix also changes CIWS counterplay against the Havoc. CIWS now destroys the Havoc in about six seconds instead of about twelve, after BULKHEAD said the previous patch overcorrected the issue.

For the broader pitch, the official launch trailer is still the cleanest quick look at WARDOGS. The balance change itself comes from the Steam hotfix note.

What changes now

The immediate player-facing shift is the vendor. IR Rangefinders are being disabled there as regional servers restart, with the item expected to return in Season 2 with a battery requirement.

That matters because WARDOGS runs on information as much as aim. When one tool gives too much awareness for too little tradeoff, squads stop making interesting choices and start treating it like required kit. Removing it from the vendor is blunt, but it is faster than waiting for a full seasonal rework.

Havoc pilots get less free time

The CIWS change is cleaner: Havoc survivability got pulled back. Six seconds is still enough time for chaos if the pilot is already in the right position, but it is no longer the same long window to bully a zone while defenses slowly catch up.

For ground players, defensive setup should feel less like a suggestion. For pilots, bad approaches should get punished harder. That is where WARDOGS is usually strongest: powerful tools, ugly consequences, and very little room for autopilot.

Season 2 is the real test

BULKHEAD says IR Rangefinders are expected back in Season 2 with batteries. That is the part to watch. Batteries could turn the item from permanent awareness into a real resource call, but the exact tuning still matters.

If batteries are cheap or too common, the same problem comes back with extra steps. If they are scarce enough to make squads choose when to turn the tool on, WARDOGS gets a cleaner tradeoff: information costs something.

What players should do now

Do not build your next few sessions around IR Rangefinder access. Shift the squad back toward spotting, callouts, safer movement and actual positioning. If you have been coasting on easy reads, this is where the game asks you to use your eyes again.

Vehicle squads should also treat the Havoc change as a warning shot. CIWS is now a faster answer, so hovering into prepared defenses is a bad trade. Push with support, break angles, and stop assuming the sky belongs to you by default.

The good version of WARDOGS is not a toolbox where one gadget solves the fight. This hotfix moves it closer to that. Now Season 2 has to prove the replacement rule is better than the emergency fix.
