Battlefield 6 is using Season 5 to start Year 2 with broader mechanical changes, not only new maps and modes. Battlefield Studios has outlined planned work for vehicles, anti-air, REDSEC classes, matchmaking, armor and weapon balance.

These are development targets rather than final patch notes. The studio says features may change, slip or be removed after Battlefield Labs testing.

Vehicles and anti-air are being retuned

Vehicle health regeneration and damage are being adjusted to reward infantry positioning and flanking. Mobile anti-air cannons are planned to become stronger against aircraft, while laser designators will require steadier tracking to maintain a lock.

The Little Bird is set to lose some splash damage against infantry. Secondary turrets gain a faster rate of fire but overheat sooner, and tank ammunition is being tuned around its intended targets. Resupply-pad cooldowns are also moving from one shared timer to vehicle-class-specific timers.

REDSEC classes are changing shape

REDSEC is testing tighter ranked matchmaking bands, reconnection after crashes, recommended drop zones for casual battle royale and faster armor application.

The Drone Specialist and Hazmat Breacher alternate paths are being removed. Several class gadgets move into the loot pool, including the Smoke Launcher, Supply Bag, Defibrillator, Breaching Dart and Anti-Drone Gun. Each class also receives a rebuilt four-level training path with more distinct tactical upgrades.

Support can eventually armor revived teammates, Recon gains stronger spotting and jammer utility, Engineer receives explosive resistance and faster replating, and Assault gets movement and healing improvements. These details are still subject to testing.

Weapon balance targets armor breakpoints

Multiple weapon groups are planned to need one additional bullet against armor at defined ranges. The studio also names the KTS100 Mk8, SCW-10, SVDM, SG553R and KV9 for further REDSEC balance work.

This is a meaningful meta change if it survives testing: armor durability, class utility and the loot pool are being adjusted together rather than as isolated weapon tweaks.

The 2027 plan extends beyond Season 5

Battlefield Studios says it is also exploring a better firing range, arsenal animation work, further gunplay expansion and another look at bolt-action sniper rifles. Vehicle immersion and the power and visual scale of gadget and vehicle explosives are part of the longer-term review.

The official Battlefield development update provides the current plan, but the full update notes will arrive one day before Season 5 launches. Until then, every listed system should be treated as planned rather than locked.
