Core Keeper Food and Farming
Useful opening food pairings for movement, light and defense, with cooking rules, crop requirements and the seed-supply mistakes that interrupt your next trip.

Make and collect a dish
- Build the pot at a Basic Workbench and place it.
- Put an edible ingredient in each input slot. Two of the same ingredient also work.
- Collect the finished food from the output. Cooking experience is awarded when you take the dish, not just when you queue it.
Read the cooked result
Raw-food effects are not the recipe's cooked effects. Rarity, golden ingredients and talents can change the displayed values. The pairings below describe their jobs without promising identical stats for every character.

Travel and movementHeart Berry + Bomb Pepper
A useful everyday pairing when getting away from danger matters more than another damage buff.Click to collapse
Why these ingredients
Heart Berry contributes temporary maximum health and short health regeneration when cooked; Bomb Pepper contributes movement speed. Cook one of each rather than eating the raw ingredients and expecting the same combined effects.
Watch the durations
On an ordinary regular dish before talents, the Pepper's movement effect lasts 1 minute while the Berry's temporary health bonus lasts 10 minutes. Seeing a health buff still active does not mean the speed buff is still running. Check your own tooltip and active effects before a chase or boss pull.
Keep the supply going
Save both seed types and plant a small plot you can water and harvest between trips. Early gardening does not guarantee every seed back, so avoid using up the last of a crop and assuming your farm is self-sustaining.
Exploring dark routesHeart Berry + Glow Tulip
Carry health support and a glow effect while keeping your gear choice separate.Click to collapse
What the pairing adds
Glow Tulip adds blue glow and mana regeneration when cooked; Heart Berry supplies temporary maximum health and short regeneration. This is an exploration option, not a claim that glow replaces every light source or makes an area safe.
When to choose something else
If moving quickly is the immediate problem, the Bomb Pepper pairing is a more direct answer. If you already have enough light and do not use mana, choose ingredients that solve a different need instead of growing Tulips only for this dish.
Defensive preparationHeart Berry + Carrock
Pair temporary health with armor before a fight; Carrock needs a stone growing plot.Click to collapse
Use before the attempt
Carrock contributes armor when cooked, while Heart Berry contributes temporary maximum health and a brief heal-over-time. Food helps prepare for a fight; it does not remove the need to dodge or repair your armor. Do not treat this as an instant healing potion.
Why your Carrock will not grow
Carrock grows on Stone Block. An otherwise working dirt farm is not the right plot for it. Hoe a compatible stone plot, plant its seeds and water it; use the crop's own requirements rather than copying the Berry bed.
Buffs, rarity and farmingAvoid paying twice for the same effect
Two ingredients with the same effect do not simply add both values together.Click to collapse
Compare effects, not just ingredient count
When a dish's ingredients share an effect, cooking uses the higher value rather than adding both, apart from permanent maximum-health gains. Two Heart Berries do not give double their temporary health bonus. Pair different useful effects when you want broader preparation.
Why numbers differ between players
Cooking skills, rarity and golden ingredients affect results. Compare equivalent dishes and your own tooltip before calling one screenshot wrong. Permanent-health ingredients have special rules; this opening reference is not a calculator for rare fish or permanent-health consumables.
When the farm shrinks
You can lose seeds on early harvests before seed-return bonuses improve. Keep spare seeds and collect new ones while exploring. A small dependable Berry and Pepper stock is more useful than a large plot you cannot replant.
