Once Human: Isles of Abyss Progression

Choose the right mode, build a dependable ship and supply line, prepare for deeper water and identify the Tech and server-phase gates that control your next step.

Before entering

Choose PvE Isles of Abyss, not RaidZone

Take the correct entry path

  1. For the PvE scenario, open Scenario Selection and choose Isles of Abyss. Agree on the exact region and server with friends before joining.
  2. For Isles of Abyss: RaidZone, switch to RaidZone in the upper-left of the character sign-in page, then select its server.
  3. Do not use a RaidZone ship-loss guide as the rules for your PvE scenario. Read the mode attached to a guide before spending supplies.

Why this matters

PvE launch servers have 12 worlds per server. RaidZone is the separate PvP version. A matching island name is not proof that two players have joined the same experience or can meet there.

What to do first

  1. Follow the scenario's opening story and use its current Tech screen as your unlock plan, rather than starting an old character-level grind.
  2. Establish a repeatable source of basic supplies along the coast. Beachcombing, gathering and scenario tasks support the next trip.
  3. Use Build Mode to construct your first ship. Save a useful configuration as a Design Layout before replacing it.
  4. Keep upgrading production and personal equipment as Tech opens the next options; owning a blueprint alone does not bypass the scenario's gates.

When your familiar build feels incomplete

The scenario limits craftable gear rarity and active Mod attributes through Tech. The Cradle system is unavailable here. This is different from losing your blueprints; our existing Tech guide explains the distinction in more detail.

Exploration loop

Use shallow wrecks to prepare for deeper water

A deeper destination needs contamination protection, oxygen and a way back, not just a stronger gun.Click for more detailsClick to collapse

Prepare one outing at a time

  1. Start with shallow shipwrecks while improving your gear and supplies.
  2. Before a deeper dive, equip appropriate ocean protection and pack oxygen support. Deeper water increases contamination and creature danger.
  3. Identify a return route and keep an ascent option ready. A promising loot marker is not a reason to use the last of your oxygen moving farther away.
  4. Look for surface clues such as floating algae, containers and ruins; treasure maps also come from activities including beachcombing and fishing.

Match the protection to the problem

Oxygen, temperature, contamination and hostile creatures are different threats. A meal or a diving suit does not solve every one of them. The Ocean Gear reference separates their uses so you can pack for the destination.

Advanced challenges

Use the server's phase, not your calendar

Phase II and purification progress unlock later encounters; starting at maximum level does not open them all.Click for more detailsClick to collapse

Know which gate you have reached

The launch rules describe Phase I as roughly 5-10 days, shortened by purification progress, and Phase II as 11 days. The core cycle is approximately 21 days, not a promise that every server changes on the same date. Read the phase on your chosen server.

What comes later

Calamity Tower: Abyss requires Phase II and prerequisite challenges. The Sunken Lord's entrance rises when server purification reaches 100%; the entrance fight still has to be completed. Do not diagnose a missing entrance as a bug from your character level alone.

If the party controls are missing

The October 23 fix lowered the Team system unlock from Tech Level 2 to Tech Level 1 in Isles of Abyss. Update the game and check your Tech progress before following older advice about that particular gate.

Sources and version notes

Checked October 24, 2026 against the official launch announcement and subsequent fixes. These pages cover the PvE Isles of Abyss scenario unless a card explicitly says RaidZone. They do not apply automatically to Manibus, other scenarios or custom servers. The older October 16 preview listed a different permanent-server date; the newer October 20/21 notices take precedence. Numeric crafting costs, transfer allowances and precise Tech unlock levels are omitted where not verified. Artwork is official Starry Studio / NetEase scenario imagery, not Game Pelt gameplay. Recommendations are research-based, not a tested build or drop-rate ranking.
